TMJ Anatomy: Function & Dysfunction
This course will provide massage therapists with a foundational understanding of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), its role in jaw function, and how dysfunction can manifest in clients. Participants will learn to identify relevant anatomical structures, recognize signs and symptoms of TMJ disorders (TMDs), and adapt massage techniques to support client comfort and well-being.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Describe the basic anatomy of the TMJ, including the bones, ligaments, muscles, and nerves.
Explain the biomechanics of the TMJ and its role in jaw movement.
Identify common signs and symptoms of TMDs, such as pain, clicking, and limited mobility.
Discuss the potential causes of TMDs, including muscular imbalances, stress, and dental issues.
Adapt massage techniques to address areas of tension and discomfort associated with TMDs, focusing on safe and appropriate application within the scope of massage practice.
Develop appropriate communication strategies to educate clients about the TMJ and provide self-care recommendations.

Certification
Participants will receive electronic course materials, and upon completion of the seminar, they will be awarded a certificate of attendance, recognized by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB).
Eligibility
The seminar is open to physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants, wellness professionals, chiropractors, and osteopaths.
